We have just started off on our big adventure. Our plans call for us to be on the road for 78 days and make over 30 stops as we travel across and around the United States. We left the KOA in Mt Pleasant on Wednesday, July 8th and headed to our first stop: Roebuck, SC. We stopped one night at a very nice RV park in Roebuck. Pineridge Campground is well wooded with a large selection of great sites. The owners, a husband and wife team, purchased this RV park in March 2012 and have been making improvements. We love staying in RV parks that are owned by couples or sole proprietors. These folks were incredibly helpful and very friendly. We will definitely put this park on our list of parks to revisit. ww Day 2 found us heading to Townsend, TN. Townsend is the gateway to the West side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is always an adventure crossing I-40 between Asheville, NC and Knoxville, TN. It’s mostly two lanes each direction, but the lanes are narrow, and the road curves through the mountains of NC and TN. I-40 is also a main thoroughfare for truckers. These guys, the truckers, just fly down the mountain roads. If they don’t feel you are going fast enough they will plant the nose of their truck on the tail of the trailer. It is quite unnerving. We survived this adventure. We arrive in Townsend TN about midday. We are staying at the Townsend KOA. This RV park sits right on the Little Pigeon River, where we will be entertained each day by tubing down the river at a very slow pace. Our entire family will be joining us this weekend for a very a very adventurous few days. There is horseback riding nearby, Cades Cove is nearby, which is a restored settlement from the turn of the century (1900’s); nature trails and tubing down the river!
